Escaping the Heat.....Maybe
With the temperatures reaching 112 - 114 this weekend, we decided it was a good time to head to the mountains. There were places we wanted to explore, and the mountains are always about 25- 30 degrees cooler. Saturday morning we headed north to Montezuma Castle, an ancient indian ruin site. Imagine our overwhelming joy when we reached our destination and found it was 101 degrees out! After driving almost two hours to get there we were determined to see it and traipsed around for about an hour before deciding that was enough. It was really very interesting to see though!![]() Montezuma's Castle is built high into a cliffside. Though it was abandoned in approximately 1400, it is amazing how much of it is still intact. ![]() This picture gives a good aspect as to how high up the dwellings are. ![]() While Rob ran for the shaded areas, some of us took the time to study the placards and learn all about the Castle. Next, we headed to one of our favorite Arizona mountain towns, Prescott, for some lunch and perusing antique shops. Rob and I used to spend a lot of time there before the kids were born and it was the first time we had been back in about 16 years. We were surprised to find a little restaurant we used to eat at in the town square was still open, so we grabbed some lunch there. Then it was out to walk around the town (hey, it was only 94 degrees here!). The courthouse square has a fun timeline painted and etched into the sidewalk out front. The kids had fun "walking through history". ![]() ![]() ![]() Wouldn't you know as we headed home the rain began to pour and the temperature plummeted to 60 degrees! By the time we made it back to Phoenix, it was 112 so we went through a 50 degree temperature change in an hour. Isn't Arizona grand?! |

OK, I can't help but notice all the ladies are wearing long pants ~~~ in 90 degree heat?? Are you nuts?? Love all the pictures ~~ I will never get to AZ so it's fun to see all that it has to offer!
