The Big Move

Well, we are finally getting settled in our new home in Colorado.  We left Phoenix Thursday and arrived here late Friday.  The kids did great on the trip....Adam only asked "Are We There Yet" once and that was before we even reached Flagstaff (about 2 hours from Phoenix!).  After that they settled in for the long drive and were quite happy watching movie after movie.  Besides the built-in DVD player, we took along two portable DVD players so they could enjoy several movies instead of trying to decide on one to watch.

I do have to address UHaul with some rather unfriendly words when I finally get the time.  They promised me the newest year of truck they had available.  We rented the largest truck they had to offer (fully loaded down....could barely close the door) and it needed to make it on a steady incline from the Valley of the Sun to the Mile High City, with trips through several mountain passes in-between.  Well, they gave us one of their older trucks which really shouldn't have been going on one-way trips anymore.  The kids and I watched as Rob fought with Old Faithful (hey, the truck desperately needed a nickname!) as we climbed out of Phoenix.  By the time we made it to the mountains and realized Old Faithful could barely muster 25 mph, we had renamed her "The Little Engine That Might".  We would send Rob encouraging messages through our radios....things like us all chanting "I think I might, I think I might" thoroughly thrilled him and kept us entertained.  Unfortunately, the Little Engine That Might had an insatiable need for liquid---  instead of the promised 6 - 8 mpg, TLETM got about 3 mpg.  Thus our gasoline budget was blown by the time we reached the New Mexico border!  Thankfully, my truck got stellar gas mileage (we've never been thrilled with the mileage on the GMC but we were happily surprised by how well it did) so that helped the budget a bit.

But...that's all said and done!  The kids are happily settling in, though we are lacking in furniture.  We got rid of a lot of it to fit into the moving truck.  So, we are getting a little creative with furniture....you know, cardboard boxes can make a nice addition to any decor     The house is really big;   I've lost a few of the kids at different times.  They always seem to find their way to the dining room for dinner, so all is well.  We're settling in to some activities already.   Andrew and Adam are going to be in a choir starting next week and the boys are all going to be in a bowling league starting the week after.  We're hoping to get back in with our previous music teacher for piano lessons sometime in September.   The kids are all eager to see their old friends again, and it was great to see family and know they are close again.

For all that sent their prayers for our safe journey, we send you thanks!
